EX HOTEL REX
The redevelopment of the historic Rex Hotel is both a challenge and an opportunity to define guidelines for rethinking and converting a historic building to meet new needs. The goal is a holistic approach that considers the building’s historical, architectural and cultural value, while integrating the technical and architectural upgrades required to ensure the well-being of future residents. The sustainability of this transformation is central to the project and seeks solutions consistent with its technical and economic challenges.
WELL-BEING
A key focus of the design is meeting users’ needs and, more broadly, their physical and mental well-being, expressed through acoustic, hygrothermal, visual, olfactory and sensory comfort.
ENHANCEMENT OF THE EXISTING BUILDING
One of the project principles is to balance past and present, recognizing the building’s features, architectural elements, materials and construction techniques in order to enhance and reinterpret them in a contemporary way.
MATERIAL ETHICS
Where existing materials cannot be reused, the project proposes natural, local and low-impact materials that improve indoor air quality and create a healthier, more comfortable environment.
REVERSIBILITY OF CONSTRUCTION SYSTEMS
The project favors dry construction systems, enabling products and infrastructures to be easily adapted and updated over time without the need for demolition and reconstruction.
