CASA ITALIA
The Casa Italia setup for the Paris 2024 Olympics was created inside Pre Catelan, a historic villa in the Napoleon III’s style located in the Bois de Boulogne.
The project is inspired by the theme of ‘ENSEMBLE,’ chosen for Casa Italia 2024, based on the following principles:
The concept of entanglement applied at various scales: at the material level, through the predominant use of fabric which, by its very nature is made of intertwining threads, symbolizing the idea of building together across connections; at the architectural level, by adopting a ‘room within a room’ approach, where semi-transparent new spaces are placed within the existing rooms, which are richly decorated in the Napoleon III’s style, creating a coexistence that mutually enhances the old and the new; and at the landscape level, by incorporating Mediterranean vegetation reminiscent of Italy’s natural beauty, engaging in a dialogue with the local flora of the Pre Catelan park and garden.
Sport as the central theme, achieved through the creation of a celebration room at the heart of Casa Italia, dedicated to the physical and media celebration of athletes.
Showcasing Italian hospitality and design through the creation of a domestic space inspired by the great Italian interiors of the 20th century, reflected in the selection of graphic and chromatic codes.
Environmental sustainability, ensured by the predominant use of natural and recycled materials, and the use of fabric as the main element of the setup to minimize the size and weight of the transported materials.
